Nearing the end of my watch-through of the top 100 episodes of Star Trek, I got to the Star Trek: Prodigy series. I decided to expand from the eight episodes that made the top 100 and watch the top 10ish Prodigy episodes. Here’s a Top 10 rearranged in chronological order, as I’ve done with other series:

EpisodeIMDB RatingSeasonEpisode #
Supernova, Part 18.7119
Supernova, Part 28.7120
The Devourer of All Things: Part 18.629
The Devourer of All Things: Part 28.7210
The Last Flight of the Protostar: Part 18.2211
The Last Flight of the Protostar: Part 28.2212
Ascension: Part 18.4215
Ascension: Part 28.6216
Ouroboros: Part 18.7219
Ouroboros: Part 28.9220

I made a judgement call on which of the IMDB shows rated 8.2 to include, opting to pick the two parter with the higher average rating.

(I did also sneak in a rewatch of “All The World’s a Stage,” an episode aimed squarely at TOS fans.)

Prodigy is so serialized that this top 10 still involves big plot changes that can be hard to follow. If you are willing to watch 12 episodes, I might just advise you to watch season 2 starting with episode 9, as all but two of these top episodes occur from there on.

When I watched Prodigy as it originally aired, I initially joked it was the worst Star Wars show ever. It’s 3D animation style and some of its visual choices are very evocative of Star Wars

That said, I’m glad the show exists, even if it’s not for me, as it’s meant as an introduction to the Star Trek universe for young, first-time fans. And it’s great to see Trek’s original wunderkind return to help this new group of wunderkinder.
